A Day in the Life of a GWSPI Student

Students and parents will arrive just before at 9:00 a.m., ready for a fun day of music-making and meeting friends. Each day students will attend their masterclass, learning new Suzuki Piano skills and polishing previously-learned techniques. Recital and duets for the older students are the same as in past years. The Institute also features several new classes: Orff, Musical Theatre and Yoga & Movement for Musicians.

Orff is largely improvisational and uses original tonal constructions that build a sense of confidence and interest in the process of creative thinking. Students of the Orff Approach sing, play instruments, and dance alone as well as in groups.

Students that signup for Musical Theatre will receive music they can learn prior to the Institute (same as the duet students). We are excited to have Tricia Lepofsky, a performing member of the Washington National Opera, as our instructor. Our collaborative pianist, Amy Conley, is fresh off her performances in Beaches with Signature Theatre.

Yoga and Movement will be taught by Dr. Laurie Hudicek. The class is taught with the sounds of the classics and nature, and will give students a chance to move their bodies, focus energies, and gently stretch and strengthen muscles that are used repeatedly by pianists.

Students will be preparing for a final performance at the end of Institute that combines singing and acting skills. The day will end at 4:00 for full day students and 1:00 for half day students.

Look forward to seeing you there!
